Day celebrates the history, heritage
of small Kansas town

An entire day packed with fun will introduce residents and visitors alike to Yoder as Yoder Heritage Day returns to the city’s historic downtown on Aug. 27.

The festival, which traditionally takes place on the fourth Saturday of August each year, will kick off with a pancake and sausage breakfast at 6 a.m., so bring your appetite. The festivities begin with the opening of the Vendor Village, where local crafters will sell their handmade items. The remainder of the day includes a parade, live music, an antique tractor pull, a quilt and craft auction, a draft horse pull, and pony events. The day concludes with a firework show at dusk.

Get ready to grab your sweetie and shake off the summer heat as Leavenworth Main Street brings its free concert series, Leavenworth Live, to town with a performance by local rock-horn band Brass Rewind. The performance will take place Aug. 13 in Haymarket Square in Leavenworth. Brass Rewind specializes in music from some of the great musicians of the past, including Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Steely Dan, and Chicago.

The event welcomes shoppers until 8 p.m. to browse the new deals on display at the store’s expansive mazes of booths. Live musical entertainment will also be on site.

Prices are slashed on existing merch and not-seen-before items are brought in as well for this six-hour event, which has received rave reviews from customers for its low, low prices.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 in front of Elsie Bell’s Antique Mall, 1101 S. Crysler (23rd and Crysler) in Independence MO. (10’ x 10’ spaces are also available to outside dealers at a cost of $20/booth as space permits.)

Lovers of classic cars and Route 66 culture can get their kicks at the annual Route 66 Festival, Aug. 11-13 in downtown Springfield.
The festival, a celebration of all things Route 66, will feature a classic car and truck show, a parade, a poker run, live music, a parade, and historical exhibits on Route 66 itself. New to the festival this year is the Route 66 Kickoff Concert and Street Party, with music from the Emerald City Band.

“This Thursday night concert will also provide a chance for community members and visitors alike to celebrate coming out of the pandemic and set the stage for future economic vitality and recovery efforts to be promoted during and following the highly anticipated festival,” according to festival organizers on the event’s website.

Slater Street Antiques will host its grand opening Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. The new antique store, located at 5905 Slater St. in Merriam is housed in two buildings including a white, two-story house built at the turn of the century. The spot has been an antique lover’s paradise for decades, first as Mundy’s Antiques in the 1980s and then Campbell & Co. Antiques.

“We will be creating a fresh new look for this location and offering an eclectic mix of dealers featuring all types of great vintage and antique merchandise for your home or office,” Slater St.’s website reads.

The merchant is still accepting vendor applications; potential vendors must have an active presence on social media in order to be considered.

Firecracker 4th Antique Show sure to bring in holiday with a bang

Make plenty of room in your RV as you prepare to bring home treasures from the annual Firecracker 4th Antique Show in the Amana Colonies.

The popular show, which coincides with the Fourth of July holiday each year, will take place in the Colonies’ RV Park, July 3-4. More than 70 vendors will set up shop, selling folk art, Americana, toys, tools, advertising, primitives, farm finds, and more. Dealers can be found in the two large, air-conditioned buildings on the park property, as well as some dealers outside. Dealer space is still available.

Anniversary and members from all over the United States will gather for their 45th annual CrockFest Convention in Red Wing on July 14-16.

This pottery collecting group began in 1977 with a get-together in Red Wing, where treasured pieces of Red Wing clay products were bought and sold and a new book about “Clay Giants” was autographed. Forty-five years later, they are still gathering, and added events will include a members auction, education sessions including a Kids View session for future collectors, a show and sale open to the public, and a sunset dinner cruise on Lake Pepin.

The annual Bella Rustina Modern Vintage Market will descend on Conway, July 15-17 at the Conway Expo Center.

The event will boast more than 230 booths crammed with antiques, vintage, and vintage-inspired creations.

Early buyers can pay an $8 admission fee to get into the gates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 16 (children 12 and younger are free). Admission to the event on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, is $5 for adults. Parking for the event is free.
