Though visits from Santa Claus won’t be happening for a few months yet, it’s going to feel like Christmas in July this month in downtown Leavenworth as Leavenworth Main Street celebrates its annual Leavenworth Main Street $1,000 Giveaway.

Only on July 30, for every $20 you spend at a participating Leavenworth merchant, your name goes into a drawing for one of 10 $100 bundles of “Main Street Bucks,” which can be used at any local businesses partnering with the organization for the event.

If you can’t make it out on July 30 for the giveaway, you can still participate in downtown Leavenworth’s sidewalk sales, which will be offered July 7-9. Get outside, enjoy some summer sun and support local businesses in the area.

Move over, IKEA – We’re coming to town! Slater Street Antiques will soon open at 5905 Slater St. in Merriam. Across the street from big-box merchant IKEA, the store will be housed in two buildings including a white, two-story house built at the turn of the century. The spot has been an antique lover’s paradise for decades, first as Mundy’s Antiques in the 1980s and then Campbell & Co. Antiques.

“We will be creating a fresh new look for this location and offering an eclectic mix of dealers featuring all types of great vintage and antique merchandise for your home or office,” Slater St.’s website reads.

The merchant is now accepting vendor applications; potential vendors must have an active presence on social media in order to be considered.

Route 66 Festival

Lovers of classic cars and Route 66 culture can get their kicks at the annual Route 66 Festival, Aug. 11-13 in downtown Springfield.
The festival, a celebration of all things Route 66, will feature a classic car and truck show, a parade, a poker run, live music, a parade, and historical exhibits on Route 66 itself. New to the festival this year is the Route 66 Kickoff Concert and Street Party, with music from the Emerald City Band.

“This Thursday night concert will also provide a chance for community members and visitors alike to celebrate coming out of the pandemic and set the stage for future economic vitality and recovery efforts to be promoted during and following the highly anticipated festival,” according to festival organizers on the event’s website.

If your road trip adventures will take you through the Midwest this summer, be sure to hop in your RV and drive to the Firecracker 4th Antique Show, July 3-4 at the Amana RV Park and Event Center in Amana.

This year’s event will feature treasures galore, from folk art, Americana, and farm finds to toys, tools, advertising, and primitives. Sellers will be set up inside two large, air-conditioned buildings on site, as well as in outside tents.

A $5 ticket price will get you into the early bird buying from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 3. Regular admission for the show from 12 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, is only $2. Parking for the event is free.

Get your kicks at the Route 66 Festival

A celebration of the nation’s Mother Road will bring thousands through Oklahoma this summer during the Route 66 Festival.
The seventh annual festival will take place in downtown Vinita on June 15-18. A centerpiece of the Route 66 Festival, a car show featuring classic automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles will take place, and the car show is sponsored by the Craig County Cruisers, a local organization of classic car enthusiasts.

A block party on Friday night gather friends old and new together with food trucks, children’s activities, and music by honkeytonk band Whiskey Poet Society on site to feed all your senses. A carnival with rides and games also will be on site during the weekend, as well as food vendors and arts and crafts vendors.

In addition, the AAA Route 66 Road Fest will be held in Oklahoma City June 18-19 and in Tulsa June 25-26. Visit Route66RoadFest.com for details and tickets.

You’ll find your must-have treasure at the Kansas City-Overland Park Antique Show

 A large variety of antiques will be up for grabs at the Kansas City-Overland Park Antique Show and Sale, June 10-11 at Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park.

Cut glass, china, furniture, pottery, jewelry, carnival glass, quilts, and flatware can be found among the offerings. The sale will also feature expert repair services for silver and costume jewelry, as well as bead stringing. Food will be available for purchase at the sale.

It’s a birthday bash for Shawnee Antique Mall

Shawnee Antique Mall in Shawnee is once again celebrating its birthday by giving gifts to its own customers – in the form of summer sales throughout the entire store on June 11.

The mall, now in its eighth year, boasts 15,000 square feet with more than 100 dealer booths selling everything from antiques to vintage item to glassware and collectibles. National Tom Sawyer Days brings family fun to Hannibal

A fixture in Mark Twain’s hometown, National Tom Sawyer Days will keep smiles on the faces of its attendees as it returns to Hannibal on June 18.

From that day until July 4, activities are planned on varying days. Named for Twain’s most beloved literary character, the festival is jam-packed with activities, including a baby contest (June 18); a fence painting competition (June 25); a carnival (starting June 30); a pet show (July 1); arts and crafts for sale (July 2-4); a horseshoe tournament (July 2-3); a cornhole tournament (July 3); trike races (July 3); and a parade and talent show (July 4). The event concludes with a fireworks show at Lover’s Leap. The event includes musical performances by Creed Fisher on July 1, Gabby Barrett on July 2, and Saving Abel on July 3. National Tom Sawyer Days is sponsored each year by the Hannibal Jaycees.

Iron Horse Marketplace is a junk lover’s paradise

Looking for a new junking tradition? Iron Horse Farms’ annual Marketplace will fill that need. The first-ever event will take place May 13-14 at the farm in Perryville.

Iron Horse Farms’ Facebook page has shared images of items that shoppers will be able to find during the marketplace, including handcrafted leather goods, cast iron cookware, bottle cap magnets, and a variety of vintage items.

When it isn’t hosting shoppers on the hunt for a great deal, Iron Horse Farms is an event venue, hosting weekend getaways, weddings, and other events. While on the property, attendees can enjoy a roaring campfire, fishing, archery, yoga, hunting, skeet shooting, horseback riding, kayaking, and bird watching.

Relive the good ol’ days at Fort Scott’s annual festival

The Good Ol’ Days Festival in Fort Scott will transport you back to a simpler time with family fun this summer.

The festival, now in its 41st year, will take place June 3-4. It has been held the first weekend in June since 1982; originally, in the late 19th century, the festival was a street fair that included an elaborate parade.

For the past 41 years, the festival has been a centerpiece in the town’s modern history, and it includes a chicken dinner, street dance, cornhole tournament, tractor display, kids fun area, zipline, trolley rides, a free concert … and a parade, of course.
